RA 250th Summer Exhibition

2018 marked the RA's 250th celebration of the Summer Exhibition, with Grayson Perry curating. As a keen follower of his creativity Ruth was one happy artist to have some work accepted to hang on the wall at this important year.

She was in good company along side David Mach and Cathy Lewis. There were many visits to London to see all the fabulous art work big and small, on such a fantastic year to visit!

Wimbledon Project

Ruth Collett’s final year project while completing her BA Hons in Technical Arts and Special Effects at Wimbledon School of Art in 2005, featured two mounted heads of a mother and son.

The pieces were sculpted in clay before being cast in resin with each strand of hair inserted strand by strand by Ruth.

They were then bought by the prestigious 'Nelly Duff' gallery in east London where they have since become an icon of Columbia Road.

Flower Pot Project

The prestigious art gallery 'Nelly Duff' in east London, commissioned Ruth Collett to produce the 'Flower Pot' head series.

Each piece depicts a different side of Ruth's personality with a variety of hair and make-up styles.

Ruth sculpted the pieces and inserted each strand of hair before painting and mounting in a flower pot.

Sculpted Portrait Project

Ruth Collett sculpted clay portraits of friends and family using references from photos and measurements taken from the subjects.

The main image shows the portraits of her brother and sister-in-law from a photo taken on their wedding day.

This project formed the starting point from which Ruth developed her sculpt that later featured in the RA's 250th Summer Exhibition.
